ACCESSIBILITY DESIGN GUIDE

project date: 1994 | by peter reedijk

Although general progress has been made in the design and construction of accessible buildings and facilities, examples of well designed accessible outdoor recreation facilities are still rare, and design specifications are at best disparate. In an effort to alleviate this problem, and comply with sections 502 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, the US Architectural and Transportation Compliance Board, USDA Forest Service and the USDI National Park Service, joined forces enlisting the expertise of disabled persons, designers, engineers, architects, and researchers to prepare a Design Guide for Accessible Outdoor Recreation.

Sea Reach Ltd. was contracted to research and write this guide. Winner of the ASLA Merit Award for Communications Winner of the California Chapter of the APA Advocacy Planning Award.
